On Friday 21st of October 2011 I took a healthy, happy Ava into the vets for a spay and removal of mammary tumours. I made the decision to try and give her a chance of a long and happy life. Unfortunately during the operation Ava refluxed, inhaling her own stomach acid. It caused irreparable damage and Sunday morning she died. I still have many questions that still need answering, but nothing will bring her back. I am devastated. Like Cuba she was a favourite and i can't bear to think she died alone at the vets with no one to comfort her and stroke that beautiful head. I can only hope she went peacefully in her sleep and that is what it looked like when I visited her body that morning she died. I cuddled her for ages and said how sorry I was, how I had failed her. All the life gone. Those beautiful eyes, closed and cold and Ava had the most beautiful eyes. When Ava was born I was drawn to her. She had the most beautiful face and I knew she would stay. She was not sure about a show career at first. Didn't like flapping tents, noise, but together we overcome all that and she did lots of winning, including a CC, before fashion changed and she was considered too big. Her last show was Crufts 2011 with a 2nd in Veteran. She was big, but that made her even more beautiful. A stunningly beautiful white dog, with the sweetest expression. Above anything else she loved to hunt, it was her passion. I loved her stubborness which often resulted in me yelling across the field 'Ava, I am talking to you!' She made me laugh. If you called her, she would often trot off in the opposite direction with a 'what does she want' look on her face! That week before she died she hunted with her daughter Rivana every night. With me having to wait for them at the bottom of the field. Both returned panting hard, living life to the full. That is why her loss is so cruel. Indoors she loved to sleep by the front door, often rushing in and plonking herself down before I could stop her. Most of the time I left her there, although I always thought the kitchen was a far nicer place to sleep than a draughty front door! She came upstairs to bed with me when I was home alone. She loved people and whenever people came to visit the breed she was always the one to sit with people offering a paw. Everyone loved her and wanted to take her home. She was special and for some reason those special ones are always taken too soon. I never expected I would say goodbye to her so soon. It is almost too hard to bear, but I can't get her back. Hope you are still out there hunting, Ava and now you won't ever have to come back before you are ready...xx

On 12th February 2011 I had to say Goodbye to Nando, aged 13. He was a true Dog in a Million. Never put a paw wrong thoughout his whole life. He was the sweetest boy you could ever meet and everyone who met him fell instantly in love. Not only a Show Champion and excellent Gundog, he was my 'Big Man' and was so very special to me.

If it should be that I grow weak,
and pain should keep me from my sleep,
then you must do what must be done,
for this last battle can't be won.

You will be sad, I understand,
don't let your grief then stay your hand,
for this day more than all the rest,
your love for me must stand the test.

We've had so many happy years,
what is to come must hold no fears,
you'd not want me to suffer so,
the time has come please let me go.

Take me to where my needs they'll tend,
and please stay with me to the end,
hold me firm and speak to me,
until my eyes no longer see.

Please do not grieve it must be you,
who has this painful thing to do,
we've been so close, we two these years,
don't let your heart hold back the tears.
